Using Ripple Emulator for Mobile Web Development

Ripple is a web based mobile environment emulator designed to enable rapid development of mobile web applications for various web application frameworks, such as Sencha Touch, Phonegap/Cordova and BlackBerry WebWorks etc. It can be paired with current web based mobile development workflows to decrease time spent developing and testing on real devices and/or simulators.

Ripple is available as Plugin from Google Chrome that turns your chrome browser into the ultimate device emulator. Ripple supports the following features

  •  Device and Network Settings
  •  Geo-Location Settings
  •  Allows to Change the device orientation
  •  Allows to trigger the accelerometer readings across different axes
  •  Allows to simulate camera capture by emulating native app functionality as if your app had been packaged using PhoneGap
Installation:

Step1:

  Download the Ripple emulator CRX File from here.

Step 2:

  Open your Google Chrome browser and go to Tools -> Extensions. Then drag the download file (ripple_ui.crx) into the Google Chrome Extensions window. That's it, now you can able to see the Ripple icon available on the right side of the Google Chrome toolbar.

Enabling the Ripple emulator:

Step 1:

  In Google Chrome address bar, type the URL or path to the landing page of your application

Step 2:

  Click the Ripple icon on the right side of the Google Chrome toolbar and  Click Enable.
