Book Review: Sencha Architect App Development By Loiane Groner

I have been reading Sencha Architect App Development book by Loiane Groner. This book is published by PACKT Publishing. I really enjoyed by reading this Book and i have learned lot of new and interesting things about Sencha Architect tool and we can develop rich HTML5 native Ext JS and Sencha Touch App Using Sencha Architect. This book contains 120 pages and my review for this book as follows.




The First Chapter: Introduction to Sencha Architect explains about the Sencha Architect software tool that is used to create Ext Js and Sencha Apps using the visual editor and the built-in code editor. It also uses a drag-and-drop visual interface for rapid application development that targets both the desktop (Ext JS) and mobile devices (Sencha Touch). This chapter also explains about the various interface features that Sencha Architect tool supports such as the toolbar, toolbox, config panel, visual editor, code editor, online documentation, and project inspector etc.

The Second Chapter: Creating an Ext JS App stars explains about creation of an ExtJS application with Grid Panel component using Sencha Architect tool. It covers about creation of model, view, store and controller with configuration using Sencha Architect with snap shots explaining each and every step. This chapter also explains about how to add a viewport component and link the view port to the grid panel component. Finally explaining  about project settings configuration and run the ExtJS App using the preview icon in Sencha Architect Tool.

The Third Chapter: Creating a Sencha Touch App explains about creation of a Contact List Sencha Touch application in which Items in the Contact List will be loaded from the phone native contact using the PhoneGap. It covers about creation of model, view, store and controller with configuration using Sencha Architect with snap shots explaining each and every step (similar to Chapter 2). Only one addition this chapter explains when compared to chapter 2 is the creation of the custom contact proxy using Sencha Touch and PhoneGap, which will read the phone native contact data and send to the contact store as ResultSet. Finally explaining about project settings configuration and run the Sencha Touch App using the preview icon in Sencha Architect (Similar to Chapter 2).

The Fourth Chapter: Tips and Tricks explains about some useful tips and tricks that can help in our everyday tasks while working with Sencha projects using Sencha Architect. It explains about importing and exporting an sencha project, how to integrate third party plugin by creating overrides in Sencha Architect, integrating Sencha Architect with eclipse IDE and creation of Utility and Ext Classes.

The Fifth Chapter: Working with Resources explains about how to include the Sencha Touch CSS and JS Library Files including themes using Sencha Architect. It explains about how to upgrade the existing Sencha Touch Projects in to the new Version using Sencha Architect. , how to configure local Ext JS and Sencha Touch Library Path and creation of a custom CSS and JS files for your projects and so on.

The Last Chapter: Simulating, Building, Packaging, and Deploying an App/Project explains about how to preview and publish an Ext JS and Sencha Touch apps within Sencha Architect. It also explains about how to use Sencha Architect with Sencha Cmd to emulate and package Apps natively for iOS and Android apps.

This book is for those whose would like to create Ext JS and Sencha Touch Application using Sencha Architect Software Tool. You can learn some useful tips and tricks that can help in our everyday tasks while working with Sencha Architect. This book also covers about building, packaging, emulating Ext JS and Sencha Touch App natively for iOS and Android apps. I like the way book explained about Sencha Architect configuration  using snapshots for each and every step.

  1. Sencha development though founded some years before most of the mobile application in recent years are done using this development.
